Dan Basore is always coming up with interesting items and occasionally sends me pictures and so this brief edition contains two of Dan's latest 'finds'!
The first one a man brought to him at the Chicago Sports Show. According to Dan, "He comes from Dowagiac and it's a two inch 5 hook Heddon Presentation Piece... his grandfather worked for Heddon..." WOW!
Dan brought this nifty piece to the NFLCC Milwaukee Show this past January and I took some pictures and posted them on Joe's as well as on my Heddon Colors Page but it's so nice, it deserves repeating!
This is a Heddon Flaptail Musky in a color called Copper Sheen. This color has a metallic look and thus the 'sheen' name. This is a cataloged color for this lure, is particular to the Flaptail Musky, is quite rare and dates to the mid-1930's.
Some items sent to me seem to get lost and then I run across the pictures while doing directory housecleaning. Where this came from I can't recall but I kept it because it's not in any of the references that I'm aware of.
UPDATE: Collector Laurie Bingham reports the following information on this neat lure and provided a picture of the patent drawing:
This lure was issued patent 1,361,067 on December 7, 1920 to Frank Jordan of New York, NY for a nonrotating topwater minnow designed to troll well to the side of a boat's wake.
Patent drawing for Jordan Dirigible Minnow
If you have any further information on any of the items displayed on this page which you'd like to share, please send your comments to me and I'll update the page accordingly. Contributions of interesting items and/or unknowns are encouraged. Lures pictured in Lure Lore are not for sale.
