SR-XBY Spook Ray, Black & Yellow
or
BHY - Black Head, Yellow

COLOR NAME: Spook Ray, Black & Yellow or Black Head, Yellow Shore
COLOR CODES: SR-XBY, BHY
RELATED COLORS: Spook Ray, Red & White (SR-XRW), Spook Ray, Chartruese & White (SR-XCW)
LURE(S) PICTURED: River Runt Spook Go-Deeper Standard (D9110SR-XBY), River Runt Spook Midget (9010BHY), River Runt Spook Floater (9400BHY), River Runt Spook Go-Deeper Standard with box (D9110SR-XBY)
DESCRIPTION: River Runt Spook: Solid white body with bright yellow spine and ribs and yellow eyes, black head. This color was cataloged for Heddon River Runt Spooks in 1950 though it was not pictured in that catalog. The models it came in are listed as 9020, 9010, 9110, 9400, D9010 and D9110.

The 'Spook Ray' finish was reported to be a "new daylight fluorescent lacquer...that has the characteristic of glowing when exposed to the invisible ultraviolet rays which activate these colors..."

A 1948 hardware company catalog was found to list this color. Sometime in the 1960's, this color was re-issued under the color code BHY (Black Head, Yellow) though again not cataloged. Examples of BHY vary from the earlier color in that the black head pattern on BHY runs evenly around the body while on the early version, the black color angles forward to the top of the head. On even later models, the black is 'blended' into the white body as illustrated above and has a white eye. This color is susceptible to fading so good examples have a very bright yellow color. This color faded so much that it can be confused with Black Head, White as the faded ribs appear very light brown or are nearly gone as the Floater pictured above shows.
